Sue Brown took this photo of a young harp seal resting on Rehoboth Beach.
According to the Marine Education, Research, and Rehabilitation Institute, Delaware’s only certified marine mammal and sea turtle rescue non-profit, he’s in good health, although a bit underweight. I had no idea such an organization existed. Nor did I know we had seals on the Delaware shore. It seems that some of the young seal pups that can’t compete for food in seal colonies further north often end up here between December and April. They follow the southerly currents in search of food. They occasionally come on shore for a little rest.
